Bangladesh’s leadership picture in 2026 is split by format. Litton Das leads the T20I side, Najmul Hossain Shanto remains the Test captain into the 2027 World Test Championship cycle, and the latest ODI squad for the opening two New Zealand matches is led by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. That is not confusion by default. It can also be read as deliberate separation.

The current map

Litton

ICC reported in May 2025 that Litton would lead Bangladesh through to the 2026 T20 World Cup, and the World Cup squad announcement in January 2026 kept that line intact.

Shanto

The Ireland Test squad piece described Najmul Hossain Shanto as Test skipper through the 2027 WTC cycle, which gives red-ball leadership a longer horizon.

Miraz

The most recent ODI squad item has Mehidy Hasan Miraz as captain against New Zealand, which suggests a separate white-ball leadership read for that format.

Viewpoint

I do not mind split leadership if the ideas behind the teams remain coherent. The danger is not having different captains; the danger is sending different messages about what each format is trying to become.
